Cary's Options For Family Fun
Cary is a vibrant city of 162,000 residents immediately west of the capital of Raleigh. It is in Wake County and within a cup of coffee drive to both Chapel Hill and Durham. Also to the north just a few miles is the Research Triangle Park. If you draw on the entire area for family entertainment the list will stretch around the block. Let’s try to create a few categories and grab some suggestions.
For Natural, outdoor entertainment you can take the family to the Fred G. Bond Park right in central Cary. The 310 acre park features a lake, boating activities, trails and playground equipment. You can take the crew to the Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve and see if you can observe some wildlife you spot an interesting bird or two. There are many, many parks in the Cary area that offer free fresh air.
To observe sports you can watch some terrific baseball or softball at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Nothing but our nation’s finest ball players here. You can head over to the WakeMed Soccer Park and take in a match. Of some of the best college hoops can be experiences at Chapel Hill and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Let’s get active with the kids! How about visiting the Triangle Aquatic Center, the largest in the state. Or Jellybeans Super Skate, a family owned indoor roller skating rink. There is year round ice skating at the IcePlex over in Raleigh, only a 10 mile drive. A couple of venues for kid’s fun is Frankies Fun Park in Raleigh and Adventure Landing in Raleigh. Both are only 12 miles away and offer batting cages, bumper boats, laser tag, mini golf, go carts and more.
Now we’ll slow them down a bit and work on skills. We can do that at the Cary Creative Center. Art classes will let them draw, paint, throw vases, work in metals or wood. An interactive, unique and inspirational environment. The Craft Room is an alternative venue offering the same. The Dead Broke Farm allows the kids to work with horses and offers trail rides, pony rides and even camping trips. The Winterpast Farm also offers a farm experience for the family with sweet animal encounters. The Green Acres venue has some bounce houses, hay rides and a place to play with rabbits.
When it comes to educating the family we can visit the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and participate in interactive exhibits and science demonstrations. The Marbles Kids Museum features imaginative and creative learning with interactive exhibits and an IMAX theatre. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences has many hands on exhibits and offers up what kids love, dinosaurs. A unique free venue is the JC Raulston Arboretum. Walk the family through beautiful gardens full of butterflies and landscaped plantings.
Back to being active, there is a Warrior Tech Obstacle Course that allows the kids to do what they do best, climb. There are numerous bounce houses that are fantastic for entertaining little people. So, let’s get started!
