More Information on Oak Grove Township, NC

To put Oak Grove Township on a map, grab the push pin and find a spot roughly about 27 miles northwest of Raleigh, only six miles directly east of Durham and about 12 miles north-northeast of the Research Triangle Park. We use the word about regarding distance because the Township doesn’t have a main street, or a post office. The Township is one of six townships in Durham County. A population survey was completed and the County administration determined the townships. The prevailing government, or ruling body, are the County supervisors and the County governing body. Fire and rescue is provided by the County as is policing the area through the Sherriff’s office. Water and sewer can vary by subdivision or private landowners. So when we address the township you can visualize a very rural setting with pockets of developments that are home to over 50,000 residents in the township. You’ll see rolling hills that are heavy with trees, timber, and cotton and tobacco fields. A very visually pleasing site we might add. Let’s address the three municipal areas that give the township character.

The Research Triangle Park

A huge impact to the market was the successful introduction of this park in 1959. A collaboration between local and state governments to stop the exit of graduates from the three universities in the market. College graduates from Duke in Durham, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and North Carolina State in Raleigh were finishing college and fleeing the area seeking better employment. The Research Park today has over 200 businesses employing over 50,000 well paid employees and another 10,000 contractors. The annual wages total over $2.7 billion and are 45% higher than the regional and national average at $56,000. The park has been a massive game changer for the entire area, including Raleigh and Durham.

Raleigh

The state capital with over 460,000 residents offers big cities amenities to the neighboring small cities, towns and of course, townships. You can start with over 1,200 restaurants. The city has a collegiate influence and has a diverse and education population.

Durham

With a population of 240,000 and also a collegiate climate Durham is also a terrific destination. Durham will offer more history than Raleigh if that is a motivator.

Location, Location

We opened with that definition, now we can build on it. Not only can you spend a Friday night in Raleigh and a Saturday night in Durham, you also the Falls Lake Recreation Area right outside your door. If you find it necessary to leave the house for a few days you can pack up the car and drive but a few hours across the Piedmont to the Atlantic Coast and enjoy some ocean beaches. If you want some peace and quiet the next weekend you can pack up again and head west two hours to explore the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Smokey Mountains. Oak Grove Township really can offer you the best of both worlds, a rural wake up call, urban amenities, and the sounds of nature again in the evening.
